f-ing cold.
It's 7 degrees in Chicago. My car door was frozen shut this morning and I just went for a jog that looked more like a sloppy ice skating routine. You all missing Chicago yet?

The Ethics of Aid
"We explore the complex ethics of global aid with a young writer from Kenya, Binyavanga Wainaina. He is among a rising generation of African voices who bring a cautionary perspective to the morality and efficacy behind many Western initiatives to abolish poverty and speed development in Africa."

also, a link to binyavanga wainaina's controversial and influential essay "how to write about africa."

please feel free to share your thoughts/comments/questions. it doesn't have to be an essay.

hey pooper shooters
so I was in my studio class on tuesday and Ikuko (my prof) asked how the conference went. I gave her the brief I got from meg, that they were charging people to attend the workshop, and only 9 people showed up because of that, and then we had a bitch-session about the american art therapy association and how they steal money from our pockets.
anyway, after that, she suggested that PF do a series of lectures/workshops at NYU in the spring. The art therapy dept. would host us, pay us, yaddah yaddah yaddah. this was all in conversation and nothing has been set in stone quite yet, but i wanted to put it past you guys and see what you thought.
also, the barney building (steinhart's visual art building) has a large gallery space and an auditorium and a stage that we could possibly utilize. i was thinking of doing the spring exhibit there, as opposed to feeling around NY for other gallery spaces and options. i'm still on the lookout, and i'm meeting with this woman from Columbia U tomorrow for drinkys, her name is karen kang, she's like 40 something and maybe has some dollaz to throw our way, if not i'm sure she has resources, she's been doing art for a while.
meh, that's all for now I guess.
g-out!

Chicago Meeting Dec 2nd
hmm. so harish, aura, ian, danny & i met. we talked mostly about prince primary & our relationships with prince, joshum & the community. and how we can play more of a consultant role...giving joshum, prince, and the community the opportunity to design a school that best suits their needs and ideas for the future. harish will be sending grant an email tomorrow (fri 12.5) to ask a ton of questions and start a dialogue.
we also have found an investor who is willing to buy property in chicago for PF to have a (semi)permanent space. we hope to use it as an ongoing gallery, workshop, office, community space. i am meeting with my friend who does real estate on saturday to go through some details. harish is talking to one of our board members, who is a real estate lawyer on friday, to see if she is able to help us with the paperwork and contractual stuff as we start this process.
next chicago meeting: sunday @ 3 PM. location=TBD

WELCOME
To the PF Family-
After the meeting today we have decided to create a blog to help us keep in touch. This will be a space where we can keep each other updated and informed on PF, bowel movements, and our love lives (or lack there of). You guys can add it as an rss feed and be updated when people post, or just make sure to bookmark it and see whats happening
Its easy to feel a drift with such great space between all of us, at least we can have our own little virtual space to help up bridge the spaces.
The meeting was good, a lot was accomplished, and we have great hopes for things to come. I look forward to finding out how everyone is doing real soon!
